Livelihood Support & Economic Empowerment
Hello World
Through our Livelihood Support & Economic Empowerment Program, we are empowering Uganda’s marginalized communities with major focus to the youth and women to rise above poverty with dignity, creativity, and resilience. We believe that true development begins when people have the skills, opportunities, and financial confidence to create sustainable livelihoods—while protecting the environment they depend on.
Why We Care;
Across Uganda, thousands of youths and women wake up each day to a shared reality: limited job opportunities, low household income, and growing economic vulnerability. The country’s youth unemployment rate remains among the highest in Africa, with many young people leaving school without employable skills or capital to start small enterprises. Similarly, single mothers and women in low-income households struggle to sustain micro-businesses that could otherwise lift their families out of poverty.
The Livelihood Support & Economic Empowerment Program was born out of SAPE Foundation’s vision to fight poverty not through aid dependency but through skills, innovation, and opportunity. We are building a model that helps communities develop income-generating skills, improve financial literacy, and establish self-help mechanisms such as savings groups, cooperatives, and community enterprises—all while integrating environmental responsibility.
From our Skill2Earn Initiative that trains youth in practical trades like herbal and liquid soap-making, candle production, and eco-friendly briquettes, to the Mothers Rise Fund Initiative that supports single mothers with small seed grants to boost their micro-businesses, SAPE Foundation is proving that empowering people to work and earn sustainably is one of the most powerful ways to eradicate poverty.
The future we want to see;
We dream a country where every youth and woman has the skills, confidence, and resources to create sustainable livelihoods and contribute to a green, inclusive economy. Because, we believe that when people acquire hands-on skills, access seed capital, and learn how to manage their finances sustainably, they can escape the poverty trap and contribute to both social and environmental well-being.
Our rationale,
This program is aligned with Uganda’s Vision 2040 and National Development Plans of creating employment, improving household incomes, and advancing sustainable industrialization.
Globally, the program aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals such as: SDG 1 – No Poverty: SDG 2 – Zero Hunger: SDG 5 – Gender Equality: SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth: SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities: SDG 13 – Climate Action.
By integrating green skills training and eco-entrepreneurship, the program also reinforces SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and the Paris Climate Agreement’s call for inclusive, sustainable economic growth.
